An unsupervised generalized Hough transform for natural shapes
نویسنده
چکیده
The Hough transform was originally designed to recognize arti.cal objects in images. A Hough transform for natural shapes (HTNS) was subsequently proposed, but necessitates the supervised learning of the class of shapes. Here, we extend HTNS to unsupervised pattern recognition, the variability of the object class being coded with tools originating from mathematical morphology (erosion, dilation and distance functions). ? 2002 Pattern Recognition Society. Generalized Hough Transform for Arabic Optical Character Recognition
The Generalized Hough Transform is a technique used to detect arbitrary objects in a given image. This technique is known for its capacity of absorption of distortions as well as noises. In the present paper, we describe an approach showing the efficiency of the use of the Generalized Hough Transform to recognize Arabic printed characters in their different shapes.
متن کاملAn Unsupervised Approach for the Accurate Localization of the Pupils in Near-Frontal Facial Images
This paper presents a new method to automatically locate pupils in images (even with low-resolution) containing near-frontal human faces. In particular pupils are localized by an unsupervised procedure consisting of two steps: at first self-similarity information is extracted by considering the appearance variability of local regions and then it is combined with an estimator of circular shapes ...

متن کاملImage Shape Extraction using Interval Methods
This paper proposes a new method for recognition of geometrical shapes (such as lines, circles or ellipsoids) in an image. The main idea is to transform the problem into a bounded error estimation problem and then to use an interval-based method which is robust with respect to outliers. The approach is illustrated on an image taken by an underwater robot where a spheric buoy has to be detected....
متن کاملExtending Generalized Hough Transform to Detect 3d Objects in Laser Range Data
Automated detection and 3D modelling of objects in laser range data is of great importance in many applications. Existing approaches to object detection in range data are limited to either 2.5D data (e.g. range images) or simple objects with a parametric form (e.g. spheres). This paper describes a new approach to the detection of 3D objects with arbitrary shapes in a point cloud. We present an ...
